We are looking for an experienced Australian Bookkeeper to join our team and manage a portfolio of Australian clients. This role is not suitable for entry-level candidates or accountants whose experience is mainly limited to working for one company . We are specifically looking for someone who has already worked in an Australian accounting/bookkeeping firm or outsourced accounting environment , is comfortable managing multiple clients at once, and can work independently with minimal supervision. What you will be responsible for You will manage the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping needs of multiple Australian clients, including: Full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients Bank and credit card reconciliations Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Invoicing, bills, payments and transaction coding General ledger maintenance and journal entries Month-end and year-end processes GST reconciliation and BAS preparation/lodgement Preparation of financial statements and management reports Preparation of Australian Tax Returns Working with supporting documents and identifying missing or incorrect information Communicating directly with clients when clarification or documentation is required Following up on outstanding items and keeping client records up to date Managing multiple client deadlines simultaneously Identifying accounting issues independently and resolving them proactively Maintaining accurate and organized working papers and client files What we are looking forEssential experience 2+ years of professional accounting/bookkeeping experience Previous experience working with multiple Australian clients simultaneously Previous experience in an Australian accounting firm, bookkeeping firm, tax practice, or outsourced accounting environment Hands-on experience with Australian bookkeeping Practical experience with BAS and GST Hands-on experience preparing Australian Tax Returns Strong experience with Xero Experience with QuickBooks Online is highly preferred Strong understanding of Australian accounting practices and compliance Excellent attention to detail Strong English communication skills Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work independently We especially value candidates who can say:“Give me a portfolio of clients and their deadlines, and I can take ownership of it without needing someone to tell me what to do every step of the way.”Independence is important This position requires someone who can work independently from day one . You should be comfortable receiving a client portfolio, reviewing the current state of the books, identifying what needs to be done, setting priorities, communicating with the client, and completing the work without constant supervision. We are looking for someone who solves problems rather than waits for instructions . Client volume Our team currently manages approximately 70 Australian clients , so experience working in a high-volume, multi-client environment is very important. You do not need to have personally managed 70 clients, but you should already be comfortable handling a significant portfolio of clients simultaneously and working across different businesses, industries and deadlines. Candidates who have only worked with one company or one set of books at a time are unlikely to be the right fit. Software Strong experience with: Xero - required QuickBooks Online - required Microsoft Excel Experience with other accounting platforms is a plus. What would make you stand out You will be a particularly strong candidate if you have: Worked in an Australian public-practice accounting firm Managed 10+ Australian clients simultaneously Prepared and lodged BAS independently Prepared Australian individual and/or business Tax Returns Experience with different types of businesses and industries Experience taking over messy or incomplete books and bringing them up to date Strong client communication skills Experience working remotely with Australian clients Ability to quickly take ownership of a client portfolio Important This is an experienced hire . We are looking for someone who can become productive quickly and take responsibility for clients with limited training. If you have strong accounting knowledge but have little or no experience with Australian clients, Tax Returns, BAS/GST, or managing multiple clients simultaneously , this position is probably not the right fit.
