About The Role We are seeking an experienced CAD & Laser Cutting Programmer to join a growing metal fabrication business. The business currently operates a laser cutting machine for approximately 160 billable hours per month and is looking to expand with a second machine. The key bottleneck is currently in CAD design and laser programming , so this role will be responsible for taking customer drawings and requirements through the full process—from initial design and CAD preparation through to programming and preparing files for laser cutting. This is a full-time position suited to someone with strong practical experience in CypNest, CypCut, and Fusion 360 , as well as a solid understanding of metal materials, thicknesses, cutting requirements, and laser programming. Key Responsibilities Receive and review customer emails, drawings, and DXF files Interpret and assess technical drawings and customer requirements Create, modify, and prepare solid DXF files using CAD software Prepare and optimise drawings for laser cutting Import and organise files within CypNest Program and configure cutting jobs using CypCut Nest parts efficiently to minimise material wastage Understand different metal types, material thicknesses, and cutting requirements Apply knowledge of laser focus levels and cutting parameters Prepare programs for laser cutting based on the material and job requirements Review designs for manufacturability and identify potential issues before production Work closely with the production team to ensure accurate and efficient machine operation Help improve the overall CAD-to-production workflow as the business scales Required Skills & Experience Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in CAD, laser cutting programming, or metal fabrication Strong experience with CypNest — essential Strong experience with CypCut — essential Experience with Fusion 360 — highly preferred AutoCAD experience may be considered as an alternative to Fusion 360, CypNest and CypCut Strong understanding of: Metal types and material properties Material thicknesses Laser cutting requirements Laser focus levels Cutting parameters and programming DXF files and CAD drawings Ability to independently take a drawing from the initial design stage through to a production-ready laser cutting program Software Priority The ideal candidate will have experience with the following software, in order of priority: 1. CypNest 2. CypCut 3. Fusion 360 4. AutoCAD The preferred candidate will have experience with CypNest, CypCut, and Fusion 360 together. Desirable Experience Experience working with CNC machinery Experience with plasma cutters Experience in the metal fabrication or manufacturing industry Experience working with laser cutting machines Experience with CMC machines Investment or investor-related experience is a bonus About the Business This is an established and growing metal industry business with approximately 3 employees and a monthly turnover of around $80,000 . The business has been operating laser and CNC-related machinery for several years and is currently looking to expand its production capacity by adding a second laser cutting machine. The successful candidate will play an important role in removing the current CAD and programming bottleneck and helping the business scale its operations. They must be able to work independently, understand the technical requirements of different materials and thicknesses, and have the practical knowledge required to ensure files are ready for efficient and accurate laser cutting.
