Job Description

Growth path: first senior of the practice → review lead over subsequent hires Fully remote; open to candidates anywhere in the Philippines Screening Questions (required with application) Describe a US client whose close you owned solo. Walk through your close checklist and typical days-to-close. Describe your experience with fund/class accounting or restricted funds in QBO. If none, explain how you'd set it up for a school with tuition, donations, and a restricted scholarship fund. Attach or describe (redacted) a budget-vs-actual commentary you wrote. What decisions did it inform? Which have you used hands-on and in what role: BILL, Gusto, Ramp, ADP, QuickBooks Payroll? Have you prepared Form 990 workpapers or supported a US nonprofit audit? Describe your role. What US Eastern Time overlap can you commit to, long-term? About The Role NERVE Technologies is a Texas-based, AI-augmented IT and back-office services firm with delivery operations in the Philippines, launching a US nonprofit accounting practice serving mission-driven schools and faith-based organizations. This is a senior, founding role — dedicated accountant for a US nonprofit client, owning their monthly close end-to-end, working independently with only light review from a US CPA. As the practice grows, this person becomes the review lead and standards-setter for future hires, authoring the SOPs, QC checklists, and reporting templates. They're explicitly looking for someone who doesn't need supervision to produce board-ready US nonprofit financials. Responsibilities Own the Monthly Close (independently) Full-cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online: categorization, bank/credit card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, fixed assets Fund/class tracking for restricted vs. unrestricted funds Design, document, and execute the month-end close checklist; hit a fixed monthly deadline Self-review to a standard where an external CPA review finds nothing material Budgeting & Board Reporting Build/deliver the monthly board package: statement of financial position, statement of activities, budget-vs-actual with written variance commentary, cash flow summary Maintain the annual budget file; support reforecasts Write board-ready commentary — clear, concise, decision-oriented English Accounts Payable / Bill Pay Process vendor bills in BILL (Bill.com): coding, approval routing, payment scheduling Vendor records, W-9 collection, annual 1099 preparation Payroll Run semi-monthly payroll in Gusto end-to-end; reconcile payroll to GL each cycle Compliance & 990 Support Prepare complete, audit-ready Form 990 workpapers for CPA review/signature Respond directly and professionally to CPA review questions Practice Building Convert working process into NERVE's SOP library and QC checklist Serve as reviewer/trainer for future accounting hires Qualifications Required CPA (Philippines) — or non-CPA with equivalent seniority (audit background, or 3+ years owning US client engagements solo) 5+ years accounting experience, incl. 2+ years owning a US client's monthly close end-to-end without local supervision Deep hands-on QuickBooks Online expertise Excellent written English (writing for a US board) Reliable 3–4 hours daily overlap with US Eastern Time Strongly Preferred US nonprofit experience: fund accounting, restricted funds, Form 990 workpapers BILL (Bill.com) and Gusto (or ADP/Rippling) hands-on experience External audit background (Big 4 / mid-tier / reputable local firm) QBO ProAdvisor Advanced certification (or obtained within 60 days, company-supported) Experience documenting SOPs or training junior staff Engagement & Compensation Initial engagement: 6-month project-based contract tied to client onboarding, converting to regular full-time employment Work Location: Remote
