Job Summary The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for independently processing accurate and compliant Australian payrolls for multiple clients across different industries, awards, systems and pay frequencies. The successful candidate will have practical end-to-end Australian payroll processing experience, strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and investigate payroll discrepancies. They must be able to work across multiple client files, follow client-specific instructions and recognise when payroll-system results require further review or correction. This role is suited to an experienced payroll professional who can work with limited supervision following an initial client handover and training period. Reporting Relationships This position reports to: · Assigned Client · EchoGlobal General Manager Key Responsibilities · Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for multiple Australian clients. · Review approved timesheets, leave, allowances and other payroll information before processing. · Apply the correct treatment of ordinary hours, overtime, penalties, allowances, leave, deductions and reimbursements. · Interpret modern awards, employment contracts and client-specific payroll arrangements. · Review payroll-system calculations and correct or query results that do not align with the applicable requirements. · Process employee commencements, changes and terminations using the appropriate supporting documentation. · Complete Single Touch Payroll reporting and prepare payslips, payroll reports and payment files. · Reconcile payroll-related accounts, PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll reports. · Assist with payroll tax calculations and other payroll compliance requirements. · Review completed payrolls for accuracy before finalisation. · Identify discrepancies, unusual results and missing information and raise queries promptly. · Maintain accurate payroll records, processing notes and supporting documentation. · Respond professionally to payroll queries from clients, employees and internal team members. · Manage multiple payroll deadlines and priorities. · Support bookkeeping and accounting teams with payroll-related tasks as required. Systems and Tools Used The role may involve: · MYOB AccountRight · Xero Payroll · Employment Hero · QuickBooks Online · Deputy and other timesheet or rostering systems Experience in every platform is not essential. However, candidates must have strong practical experience in at least one Australian payroll system and be able to learn additional systems. Qualifications and Experience · At least three years of practical payroll experience, preferably within an accounting firm, payroll bureau or multi-client environment. · Demonstrated experience independently processing end-to-end Australian payroll. · Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements. · Practical experience interpreting modern awards, employment conditions and payroll entitlements. · Experience reviewing timesheets and determining the correct treatment of hours, overtime, leave and allowances. · Understanding of PAYG withholding, superannuation, Single Touch Payroll and payroll tax. · Experience processing employee commencements, changes and terminations. · Ability to review payroll reports, identify discrepancies and complete payroll reconciliations. · Experience managing multiple payrolls, clients or entities with different processing requirements. Role Expectations The Senior Payroll Specialist is expected to: · become independently responsible for assigned payrolls following an appropriate handover; · understand that payroll requirements differ between clients, awards and systems; · review payroll outcomes rather than assuming the software calculation is correct; · investigate discrepancies and raise meaningful queries; · complete an effective self-review before work is submitted or payroll is finalised; and · protect the business and its clients from avoidable payroll and compliance risks.
