Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator with 5 to 8\+ years of professional production environment experience to drive the database design, maintenance, and optimization for our centralized system ecosystem. This platform is a high-scale, centralized ecosystem encompassing multiple interconnected services and seamless third-party API integrations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the high availability, security, scalability, and peak performance of our relational and analytical database architectures across MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL platforms. Key Responsibilities Architecture \& Administration Multi-Platform Management: Administer, configure, and maintain high-performance MySQL (5\.7 / 8\.0\), PostgreSQL (12\+), and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database environments. Schema Design: Architect robust database designs and schemas using proper normalization, denormalization, and data modeling techniques. High Availability \& DR: Design, implement, and rigorously test High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, including master-slave replication, primary-replica configurations, and clustering. Cloud \& Infrastructure: Support cloud-native database environments (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL Database) and perform Linux server administration (Ubuntu / CentOS). Performance Tuning \& Optimization Query \& Index Tuning: Write and optimize advanced SQL queries (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, subqueries). Utilize tools like EXPLAIN, Query Analyzer, and SQL Server Profiler to analyze execution plans and optimize indexing strategies. Scalability at Scale: Implement partitioning, sharding, and both vertical and horizontal scaling strategies to manage large-scale production databases processing millions to billions of records. Load Management: Optimize connection pooling and database load distribution to handle high concurrency. Operations, Observability \& Security Monitoring \& Alerts: Set up, maintain, and monitor proactive alerting systems using slow query logs and performance metrics through Prometheus, Grafana, and Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM). Data Lifecycle \& Automation: Establish automated backup and validation processes (full, incremental, differential, and point-in-time recovery). Draft automation scripts using Bash. Security \& Compliance: Enforce database security policies, roles, permissions, encryption at rest/in transit, access control, and comprehensive audit logging. Migration \& Incident Response: Execute low-to-zero downtime database migrations and structural schema updates. Serve as an escalation point for production troubleshooting and incident response. Technical Stack Requirements/Non-Negotiable (Must-Have) Core RDBMS: MySQL (5\.7/8\.0\), PostgreSQL (12\+), Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) Advanced Querying: Expert-level SQL \& T-SQL (CTEs, Window functions, Query Plan Analysis) Data Warehousing: Solid knowledge of data warehousing and analytics platforms ( Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift ) Monitoring Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM), SQL Server Profiler OS \& Scripting: Linux Server Administration (Ubuntu/CentOS) and Bash scripting for automation Cloud Infrastructure: Native experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, or Azure SQL Database Experience: Minimum of 5–8\+ years of pure professional DBA experience handling complex production-level systems. Negotiable (Nice-to-Have) NoSQL Databases: Experience with MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, or DynamoDB Architecture Scale: Proven exposure to multi-region database replication, global distribution strategies, and cross-cloud management (AWS \+ Azure \+ GCP) Data Volume: Prior experience optimizing terabyte/petabyte-level data architectures Modern Tooling: CI/CD awareness for automated schema changes and Docker/containerized database environments Team Fit \& Soft Skills Communication: Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to provide clear documentation and collaborate seamlessly with developers, DevOps, and system architects. Mentorship: Willingness to provide technical guidance and promote database best practices across engineering squads. Important Compliance, Setup \& Eligibility Requirements Crucial Screening Criteria — Please Read Carefully Before Applying Identity \& Language: Candidates must be Filipino citizens currently residing in the Philippines and fully fluent in both English and Tagalog. Employment Type: This is a full-time, Independent Contractor (IC) role (40 hours/week, permanent WFH). Selected candidates are responsible for managing their own local taxes, personal equipment, and individual benefits. Working Schedule: This is a client-facing role requiring a standard US-hour overlap. The regular working hours are typically 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM Manila Time (PST) , with the remaining hours completed flexibly. Technical Workspace Setup: You must possess a reliable laptop or desktop setup, a highly stable internet connection, and a quiet, professional remote workspace environment. Evaluation Integrity: In compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012, our preliminary interview sessions are recorded for identity validation, background checks, and evaluation documentation. The use of AI-assisted real-time scripts, voice-altering software, or proxy candidates during any phase of the recruitment process is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification. Benefits Flexible schedule Opportunities for promotion Work from home Application Question(s): How many years of professional experience do you have working as a Database Administrator (DBA) managing production environments?
