About The Role Cottonwood Acquisitions is a small-business operator group with nine portfolio companies across the US and Canada. We're hiring a remote senior accountant to lead day-to-day accounting across three of our businesses: Pacific Register (manufacturer of decorative HVAC registers, Oxnard CA USA), Total Restoration (restoration and mitigation services, Penticton BC Canada), and Marine Systems (manufacturer of decorative HVAC grilles and thermoformed components for yachts, Asheville, NC, USA). This is a hands-on senior accounting role reporting directly to the CEO. The right hire takes pride in clean financial statements, accurate bank reconciliations, and well-supported audits. Initial scope is three entities. What success looks like The single most important outcome is to own the preparation of monthly financial statements and quarterly bank reporting. Within 90 days we want this hire owning the monthly close, producing clean GAAP-quality financial statements with management commentary, and serving as the day-to-day liaison with our external auditors at year-end. Day-to-day responsibilities Own the monthly close across three entities, hands-on. A representative slice of what this involves: bank reconciliations for cash, posting customer payments across credit card / PayPal / ACH channels, multi-state sales tax filings, full bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries and accruals, intercompany allocations between US and Canadian entities, customer advance reclassifications, and AP/AR oversight. Manage the bookkeepers at each of the businesses, coach them on how to improve processes and identify technology to streamline processes. Prepare monthly three-statement financial packages (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) with management commentary. Calculate quarterly bank covenant compliance against existing credit agreements (DSCR, leverage ratios, fixed charge coverage, working capital tests). Manage year-end external audit support across all three entities — prepare PBC schedules, respond to auditor requests, drive resolution of open items. It will take some time to understand the businesses and we would like to see the candidate embark to understand the 3 businesses and build a FAQ document of the people at the businesses, what their roles are and what you learn about the businesses. Then when there are slower periods in the role, we would like to see the creation of process documentation to professionalize our accounting processes. Must-haves 6–12 years accounting experience, including ownership of monthly close CPA equivalent license required Strong written and spoken English Multi-entity accounting experience QuickBooks Desktop and Sage 50 Canada experience is helpful, but not required US or Canadian SMB client experience preferred Comfortable preparing three-statement financial packages independently Hands-on orientation — "no task too small" Strong nice-to-haves Big 4 / SGV / SyCip background (audit experience preferred) Manufacturing or services industry experience Experience supporting acquisitions or year-end audits Work setup Fully remote with some Bridge overlap with USA Pacific Time. Weekly check-in call. After the transition period, we expect ad hoc calls outside of the designated hours to be uncommon — typically no more than 1–2 per week, often less. Ideal candidate profile The person who's right for this role is a mature senior accountant who takes pride in precision work and clean books. They've outgrown their current seat at a local firm or BPO client and want a longer-term home with a growing US business. They love a clean reconciliation. They write well in English. They're comfortable being the most senior accountant on the team but unbothered by hands-on detail work — they understand that a clean balance sheet doesn't reconcile itself. They are looking for a stable, dignified, longer-term role where their craft is valued and the work is interesting enough to grow into.
