Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for our real estate development and construction operations. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, construction accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, and real estate financial management. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing the accounting team, and providing financial insights to support business decisions. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the daily accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Cash Management. Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Oversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and ensure proper revenue recognition using the percentage-of-completion or applicable accounting method. Monitor project costs, job costing, budgets, change orders, committed costs, and project profitability. Reconcile WIP schedules to the general ledger and investigate variances. Review construction draws, retainage receivables and payables, and lien waiver documentation. Oversee accounting for real estate acquisitions, development costs, capital projects, and property operations. Ensure accurate capitalization of construction and development costs. Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures. Coordinate annual financial audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors. Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity requirements. Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements. Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff. Support ERP and accounting system improvements and process automation. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation strongly preferred. Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience. At least 3–5 years in a Controller or Accounting Manager leadership role. Extensive experience in construction and real estate accounting . Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP . Demonstrated expertise in: Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting Percentage-of-completion accounting Job costing Revenue recognition Retainage accounting Construction draws Change orders Cost-to-complete analysis Experience preparing consolidated financial statements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with accounting and construction software such as QuickBooks Enterprise, Procore. Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with real estate developers, general contractors, or home builders. Experience managing multiple entities and intercompany transactions. Familiarity with project financing, loan draws, and lender reporting. Knowledge of sales tax and construction-related tax compliance. Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and internal controls.
