About The Role You will run the entire finance function for an Australian clinical-stage biotechnology company, working directly with their CFO. Books through to trial balance every month. Clinical trial costs, commercial sales, corporate overheads and Australian payroll. This is not a data entry job and it is not a support role. You own the numbers. The CFO reviews what you produce, he does not fix it for you. You will be employed by ScaleUp Staff, a registered Philippine entity. Work from home. What You Will Do Own the general ledger and deliver a fully reconciled trial balance every month against a fixed close timetable Run end to end Australian payroll, including superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, leave accruals, STP reporting and year end finalisation Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and clinical trial cost accruals Maintain balance sheet reconciliations to audit standard, with workpapers an auditor can follow Manage the full AP cycle, including multi-currency payments to offshore trial sites, CROs and suppliers Manage AR for domestic and offshore product sales, including distributors and collections Bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies, plus weekly cash reporting Cost accounting across product lines and clinical trial programs Prepare BAS and IAS with GST reconciliations Provide schedules supporting annual statutory reporting, external audit and the R&D tax incentive claim What you must have These are not preferences. If you cannot demonstrate all of the following, your application will be rejected. CPA qualified, or actively working toward it. If you're certified, say so. If you're mid-way, tell us which exams you've passed and when you're sitting the rest. If you don't have it at all, we would expect significant experience to make up for it. Minimum three years in hands-on accounting roles where you personally owned the books through to trial balance. Not three years assisting someone who did. End to end Australian payroll experience. Superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, STP, year end finalisation. You must have run Australian payroll yourself, start to finish. This is the single hardest requirement in this role and we will test it at interview. Xero. You have run a full set of books in it, maintained the chart of accounts, and built tracking categories. Not just processed invoices in it. Strong Excel. Lookups, pivots, multi-sheet reconciliations built so someone else can follow them. Multi-currency experience. Foreign suppliers, foreign customers, FX movements. Nice to have CPA certified rather than in progress Working toward CPA Australia registration Experience in a listed or otherwise regulated reporting environment Clinical trial, pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare or FMCG accounting MYOB or QuickBooks Online alongside Xero Do not apply if you Have never run Australian payroll. Knowing Australian tax "in theory" is not the same thing and we will find out in ten minutes Need someone to check your reconciliations before they go anywhere Have only worked in a large team doing one slice of the process, such as AP only or payroll only Are looking for a stepping stone into something else.
