Freelance Garment Technician Sourci | Remote | Freelance / Ad Hoc / Per Project About Sourci Sourci is an Australian product development business that works with brands and businesses to bring products from concept through to production. The team focuses on product development, design, manufacturing, and supplier coordination, with a strong emphasis on quality, commercial outcomes, and reliable product execution. We are looking to build a network of experienced freelance garment technicians who can provide specialist technical support to our product development process on an ad hoc, project-by-project basis . About The Role The Freelance Garment Technician will provide ad hoc, task-based technical services to support Sourci's product development process. Work is engaged on a per-job basis . For each assignment, Sourci may provide garments, samples, existing tech packs, specifications, templates, or a clear technical brief. The freelancer will complete the required work and return the agreed deliverables within the specified timeframe. This is a genuine freelance / independent contractor engagement , with no guaranteed or minimum volume of work. Key Responsibilities Create garment tech packs for garments supplied by Sourci, including: Measurements Points of Measure (POMs) Construction details Fabric and trim information Bills of Materials (BOMs) Technical sketches Measure garments or samples supplied by Sourci and check them against the corresponding tech pack or specification. Accurately record all measurements and clearly identify any variances from specification. Provide practical recommendations to enhance garment fit, construction, quality, or overall product development. Grade specifications from a supplied base-size specification , following the required size range and grade rules provided in the brief. Complete each assignment using the templates, formats, and specifications supplied by Sourci. Return all completed deliverables by the agreed due date. Carefully review each brief before commencing work. Raise questions or flag any missing, unclear, or inconsistent information before starting an assignment. Attend virtual fit sessions with the Sourci internal team and/or clients when required. Provide technical recommendations, fit comments, and clear action points following fit sessions. Skills & Experience We are looking for an experienced Garment Technician with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. You will ideally have: Proven experience working as a Garment Technician within womenswear, menswear, functional garments such as workwear, underwear, accessories, kidswear, or similar apparel categories. Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fit, and fabrication across woven and cut-and-sew garments. Knowledge of soft accessories would be advantageous. Accurate and consistent garment measurement techniques. Strong working knowledge of Points of Measure (POMs) and specification sheets. Sound knowledge of grading principles and the application of grade rules across different size ranges. Demonstrated ability to produce clear, complete, and accurate tech packs and measurement reports that can be understood and used without further explanation. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel , including formulas and grading sheets. Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator . Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Clear and professional written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage individual assignments to agreed deadlines. Ability to identify potential technical issues and proactively seek clarification before commencing work. Engagement & Delivery Freelance / Independent Contractor Ad hoc, per-job / per-project engagement Work is offered on an ad hoc basis, with no guaranteed or minimum volume of work . Each job is briefed individually, with garments, samples, tech packs, specifications, or other relevant materials supplied by Sourci, together with the required deliverables and due date. Fees will be agreed per job , or at an agreed hourly or daily rate where appropriate. The freelancer will invoice for completed work and will operate as an independent contractor , responsible for their own tax, insurance, equipment, software, and other business expenses. Completed deliverables will be reviewed by Sourci's internal team. The freelancer may be required to correct errors or omissions identified in a deliverable where these relate to the original brief or the freelancer's work. Any additional work resulting from changes to the original brief or requirements will be agreed separately. Following completion and handover of the agreed deliverables, the freelancer will have no ongoing involvement unless separately agreed for another assignment. All garments, samples, tech packs, specifications, templates, and related materials supplied by Sourci remain the property of Sourci. All company materials and project information must be treated as strictly confidential . Please note: This is a freelance, project-based opportunity and does not involve guaranteed hours, a fixed monthly salary, or a minimum volume of work.
