About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to drive the architectural design, development, and deployment of a next-generation, AI-powered legal tech platform. In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of building intelligent microservices that modernize complex legal workflows, analyze dense legal documents, and optimize communication pipelines. You will operate within an agile, cross-functional Scrum team (Product, Backend, Frontend, QA, Security, and Design) to deliver secure, highly scalable, and production-ready solutions built natively on AWS. Core AI Capabilities You Will Build AI Case Assistant: Enterprise-grade Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system built to query, retrieve, and synthesize contextual legal insights from large volumes of structured and unstructured case files. AI Task Automation Engine: Event-driven operational system designed to detect compliance missing items, identify anomalies, track critical deadlines, and automate workflow triggers. AI Business Development Assistant: NLP and LLM-driven pipelines built to optimize outreach, analyze growth metrics, and streamline client communications. Key Responsibilities RAG & AI Assistant Development: Architect and deploy production RAG pipelines, fine-tuning retrieval accuracy, chunking strategies, prompt engineering, and response latency for legal research applications. Intelligent Document Processing (IDP): Design scalable document ingestion workflows using AWS Textract and AWS Comprehend to parse scanned PDFs, court filings, and medical records, indexing vector embeddings into AWS OpenSearch. Microservices Architecture: Build performant, asynchronous Python microservices utilizing FastAPI and RESTful endpoints to process real-time and batch workload demands. Infrastructure, Security & DevOps: Containerize applications via Docker and provision AWS infrastructure using HashiCorp Terraform across AWS Lambda, ECS/ECR, S3, RDS, and SageMaker. Data Protection & Compliance: Implement strict data isolation protocols, PII masking, role-based access controls, and encryption standards (in transit and at rest) for highly sensitive legal and healthcare data. Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in daily standups, architectural reviews, sprint planning, and technical mentorship within a fast-paced remote engineering culture. Required Qualifications Engineering Experience: 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience, featuring extensive production Python backend development and proven experience shipping AI/LLM applications to production. Core Backend & AI Stack: Expert proficiency with Python, FastAPI, Microservices, REST APIs, RAG, LLM APIs (OpenAI/Bedrock), Prompt Engineering, and Vector Search databases. AWS Data & AI Ecosystem: Hands-on experience with AWS Bedrock, AWS Textract, AWS SageMaker, AWS OpenSearch, AWS Comprehend, AWS Lambda, S3, and RDS. DevOps & Tooling: Production experience with Docker, ECS/ECR, Git, and Infrastructure as Code using HashiCorp Terraform. Engagement Setup: Fully equipped for a 100% remote, full-time (40 hours/week) Independent Contractor arrangement aligned strictly with US EST Night Shift hours. Soft Skills: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Nice-to-Have Skills Hands-on experience with Hugging Face models and custom Named Entity Recognition (NER) training. Proficiency with AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK) or advanced Terraform modules. Deep understanding of Event-Driven Architectures (AWS EventBridge, SQS/SNS, Kafka). Experience with AI model evaluation, benchmarking, semantic search implementations, or Knowledge Graphs. Prior experience building software in regulated industries (Legal Tech, HealthTech, FinTech).
