Senior Drilling Consultant

Job Description

The Senior Drilling Consultant is responsible for providing technical advice, supervision, and operational support for mineral exploration drilling activities. The position ensures that drilling operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and according to approved drilling plans, technical standards, and project requirements. The position requires extensive experience in diamond core drilling, mechanical drilling rigs, full-hydraulic drilling equipment, drilling-fluid control, difficult ground conditions, equipment maintenance, and drilling crew management. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide technical guidance and supervision for mineral exploration diamond core drilling activities. 2. Develop and recommend drilling methods, operating parameters, equipment requirements, and drilling-fluid programs based on geological and ground conditions. 3. Supervise the operation of mechanical core drilling rigs, crawler-mounted full-hydraulic rigs, and portable or modular hydraulic drilling equipment. 4. Adjust drilling pressure, rotation speed, water flow, mud properties, and other drilling parameters to improve drilling efficiency and core recovery. 5. Identify and resolve drilling problems such as hole collapse, rod sticking, lost circulation, unstable formations, fractured rock, and difficult weathered ground conditions. 6. Monitor drilling progress, daily meterage, core recovery, equipment performance, material consumption, and project targets. 7. Coordinate with geologists regarding drill-hole locations, drilling depth, core recovery, geological logging, sampling requirements, and drilling records. 8. Supervise the proper recovery, handling, arrangement, and turnover of drill cores and drilling information. 9. Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and minor repair of drilling rigs, drill rods, pumps, hydraulic systems, and related equipment. 10. Prepare and implement equipment maintenance schedules to reduce mechanical breakdowns, drilling delays, and operating costs. 11. Lead, supervise, and train drilling supervisors, drillers, helpers, mechanics, and other drilling personnel. 12. Develop standard operating procedures and provide technical and safety training to drilling crews. 13. Conduct daily toolbox meetings, safety inspections, hazard assessments, and drilling-site risk control activities. 14. Ensure compliance with company safety policies, environmental requirements, approved work programs, and applicable government regulations. 15. Coordinate the mobilization, installation, operation, transfer, and demobilization of drilling rigs and supporting equipment. 16. Assist in workforce planning, drilling schedules, supply requirements, spare-parts inventory, and cost-control measures. 17. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly drilling progress reports, equipment reports, safety records, and technical recommendations. 18. Perform other drilling-related technical and supervisory duties that may be assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications · Minimum of twenty years of experience in mineral exploration diamond core drilling and drilling-site supervision. · Extensive experience in mechanical core drilling rigs and full-hydraulic drilling equipment. · Strong knowledge of drilling parameters, drilling-fluid preparation and control, core recovery, hole stabilization, and difficult-formation drilling. · Experience in drilling under fractured rock, weathered formations, high-altitude, tropical, mountainous, remote, or other difficult field conditions. · Proven ability to diagnose drilling problems, repair drilling equipment, and reduce equipment downtime. · Experience in supervising drilling crews, managing multiple drilling sites, and training drilling personnel. · Strong knowledge of drilling safety procedures, hazard control, preventive maintenance, and field risk management. · Ability to coordinate effectively with geologists, project managers, contractors, local workers, and technical personnel. · Physically fit and willing to work for extended periods at remote mineral exploration sites. · Experience in overseas or cross-cultural mineral exploration projects is an advantage. · Mandarin language proficiency is preferred for technical coordination with the stakeholders. · Experience in operating and maintaining full-hydraulic/crawler-mounted drilling equipment. · Strong knowledge of international drilling safety standards and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management practices.
