Job Title: ASL Language Specialist (Scoring Assistant) Commitment: Full-Time (40 hours/week, weekend-inclusive) Schedule Must be comfortable working within EST business hours. Rate: $5/hour Overview: Are you a visual-spatial linguistic expert with a passion for teaching American Sign Language (ASL)? Our client’s academic team is looking for an ASL Subject Matter Expert to serve as the final authority on student language acquisition and receptive/expressive fluency. In this role, you will ensure our AI-driven platform accurately evaluates student signing accuracy, grammatical structure, non-manual markers, and Deaf culture comprehension for Grades 6–12. We are specifically looking for an expert who understands the unique journey of English speakers learning ASL as a visual modality, helping them navigate the structural bridge between spoken English and a spatial language. Key Responsibilities Linguistic Grading & Pedagogical Feedback: Score student video submissions in ASL. Provide constructive, encouraging feedback on handshape, movement, location, orientation, non-manual signals (NMS), and spatial framing, specifically targeting common errors made by hearing learners. AI Quality Control: Audit our AI computer-vision and scoring system (Spark) to ensure auto-generated feedback on video submissions is accurate, precise, and pedagogically sound for language learners. Curriculum & Regional Variation Advocacy: Review video prompts, signing glosses, and grading rubrics to ensure accuracy across regional dialectal variations and proper representation of Deaf cultural norms. Error Analysis: Spot and correct systematic patterns where English-to-ASL literal translations fail (e.g., mouth-morphing English words, overusing initialized signs, relying on English word order instead of ASL topic-comment syntax). Skills and Qualifications: Analytical Depth: Ability to evaluate visual student work—from basic middle school vocabulary production to complex high school storytelling, classifiers, or conversational video submissions. Technical Proficiency: High video-review efficiency, comfortable using video-annotation tools, typing speed of 60wpm+, and the ability to adapt to new educational software quickly. Soft Skills: An empathetic, encouraging communication style tailored for middle and high school students overcoming performance anxiety in video-based language learning. Subject Expertise Needed: ASL Mastery: Native or near-native fluency (e.g., ASLTA certified, RID certified, or native signer) with deep knowledge of spatial grammar, classifier systems, and regional variations. English Proficiency: High-level English fluency is required to write detailed textual feedback and understand the cross-modal friction points for English-speaking students (e.g., mastering time-topic-comment structure, visual indexation, and non-manual grammatical markers). Nice to Have: Educational Background: A degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, Linguistics, or a related field. Experience: Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or professional grading, particularly teaching ASL as a Second Language (L2) to native English speakers. Why This Role? This is more than just "checking boxes." You will be an essential part of a team that maintains world-class educational standards, blending human intuition with cutting-edge AI computer-vision technology to shape the future of visual language learning. Job Type: Full-time Benefits Work from home Application Question(s): What is your verified typing speed (WPM)? What is your English proficiency level (CEFR scale)? What is your educational or professional background in Healthcare, Nursing, Medical Assisting, or Health Administration? Are you comfortable having a weekend schedule? ASL Fluency & Native Status: What is your level of ASL fluency, and how did you acquire the language? How formally taught, tutored, or evaluated hearing students learning ASL as a second language (L2)? \ How many years of experience teaching, tutoring, grading, and providing written feedback to students (specifically Grades 6–12 or introductory learners)? If yes, please briefly describe your experience. Language: English (Required) Location: Philippines (Required) Work Location: Remote
