Key Responsibilities • OWNERSHIP & LEADERSHIP • • Take ownership of the product end to end, across the website, installer platform, user platform and broker platform • • Lead the technical direction: define architecture, set code standards, and drive the product to a higher level of quality, scalability and maintainability • • Mentor and manage our existing developer, reviewing their work, unblocking them, setting priorities and helping them grow • • Make pragmatic build-vs-refactor decisions and own the trade-offs • • Design and build scalable backend logic, APIs and data flows in Node.js and PostgreSQL • • Build reusable, scalable, polished React components that follow modern design and architecture standards • • Write clean, well-structured TypeScript throughout the stack, and refactor inconsistent code for long-term maintainability • • Optimise performance across client and server, and own our AWS-based infrastructure: deployments, environments and hosting • PROCESS & COMMUNICATION • • Run code reviews, uphold quality, and drive ongoing improvements in workflow and system design • • Communicate clearly and regularly through GitHub, Slack, async updates and short video check-ins • Required Qualifications • • Proven experience leading product or platform development and owning technical direction • • Experience mentoring or managing other developers • • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code) as part of a professional workflow • • Strong proficiency in Next.js, React, TypeScript and Node.js, including designing and building REST APIs and data models • • Hands-on experience with AWS or similar cloud infrastructure, and with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases • • Comfortable working inside an existing, multi-product codebase, not just greenfield projects • • Strong written English and able to work effectively in an async, remote setup • Preferred Skills • • Experience leading or being the senior technical voice in a small team or early-stage startup • • Eye for design detail: able to make interfaces look professional without relying on pixel-perfect Figma specs • • Exposure to multi-platform products (e.g. separate customer, partner/broker and admin surfaces) Soft Skills & Attributes • • Takes genuine ownership and is accountable for outcomes, not just tasks • • A natural leader who can set direction, mentor others and raise the standard of those around them • • Decisive and pragmatic, but knows when to ask clarifying questions early instead of guessing • • Takes pride in delivering clean, production-ready work • Work Environment & Details • • Fully remote role, requiring reliable overlap with Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT) • • Communication via Slack, GitHub and regular video calls • • Reports directly to the founder; leads and manages the existing developer • • You will own and shape the patterns, standards and architecture for the whole product • • Work spans building new features and maturing the existing codebase across all platforms
