Position Overview We are seeking a highly autonomous AWS Data Engineer to join us as an Independent Contractor. In this production-critical role, you will be directly responsible for architecting, deploying, and maintaining reliable, scalable, and highly secure AWS data pipelines and lakehouse infrastructure. You will work as an embedded technical consultant collaborating directly with US-based clients, product leads, and analytics teams. Contract Details Type: Independent Contractor / 100% Remote Schedule Mandatory daily overlap with US Business Hours (EST/PST) Engagement: Full-time, long-term contract Key Responsibilities Pipeline Architecture & Orchestration: Design, deploy, and maintain end-to-end, fault-tolerant batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue (PySpark/Scala), Lambda, and Step Functions. Lakehouse Management & Security: Build and manage enterprise data lakes on AWS S3. Enforce strict fine-grained access control, column/row-level security, and data governance using AWS Lake Formation and AWS IAM. Query Performance & Analytics Optimization: Write advanced SQL, optimize data partitioning/compaction, and manage distributed ad-hoc querying via AWS Athena to ensure low-latency performance and cost efficiency. Event-Driven Architecture: Design decoupled, asynchronous data processing workflows leveraging SQS, EventBridge, and SNS for real-time alerting, error handling, and job triggering. Monitoring, SLA Maintenance & On-Call: Implement proactive cloud-native monitoring (CloudWatch, DataDog, OpenSearch), establish automated failure alerts, and rapidly resolve data ingestion bottlenecks or pipeline failures. Client Consulting & Technical Execution: Serve as the primary technical contact for US clients to translate business goals into rigid data schemas, architectural blueprints, and scalable deliverables. Strict Technical Requirements AWS Data Ecosystem: 4+ years of deep hands-on expertise building production systems with Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Step Functions, S3, Lambda, EC2, SQS, and EventBridge. Programming & Querying: Advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas, PySpark, boto3) and complex SQL for heavy data manipulation and optimization. AWS Governance & Security: Proven track record of enforcing zero-trust data governance, automated IAM policies, and data encryption at rest and in transit (KMS). Remote Work Setup: Dedicated home-office infrastructure, reliable backup power solutions, and high-speed fiber internet. Communication & Time Zone Availability: Exceptional, assertive written and verbal English communication skills, with proven ability to lead client-facing technical meetings during core US working hours. Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have) Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience provisioning AWS environments using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation. Networking & Security Setup: Direct experience configuring VPCs, private subnets, NAT Gateways, VPC Endpoints, and VPN connections. AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate/Professional or AWS Solutions Architect Professional.
